Meet your Teachers
I am very excited to be your teacher this year and can’t wait to spend year 3 with you. Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy going out for meals and having day trips out, especially in the sunshine!
Before I became a teacher I was a dance and musical theatre teacher and a fitness instructor. I have always had a passion for dancing, fitness, acting and singing and love to include these into our lessons! I can’t wait for a fun-filled year!
Class 8 Teacher
Some of you will have seen me around school, as I am also a Lunchtime Supervisor, I’m usually in charge of the music!
Outside of school, I’m a mum to two boys who are 13 and 8 and I love spending quality time with them. I’ve been working at Monkwood for a few years now and love helping children to learn and grow. I can’t wait to start working with you. Let’s have the best year!
Class 8 Teaching Assistant
This year will be my first full year at Monkwood after spending some time in year 1 last year. I am very lucky to be joining Monkwood and am looking forward to us doing lots of fun learning over the next year.
Outside of school, I keep myself busy by looking after my pet Labrador, who is called Ronnie and my two children; Grace who is 11 and Jake who is nearly 9. As a family, we are very active and I love playing the best sport ever… Netball! I play for a team in Sheffield called Hallam Hustlers and we are pretty good (even if I do say so myself!). A lot of people are surprised to learn that a few years ago I did a parachute jump raising lots of money for charity and I absolutely adore riding rollercoasters.
My favourite subjects to teach are Maths and Science. I also get very excited about bringing our learning to life through Art projects, Music and Drama. I have already met most of you, but I am really looking forward to getting to know you and your grown-ups better.
Class 9 Teacher
Some of you will have seen me around school, as I am also a Lunchtime Supervisor and work in breakfast club. I’ve worked at Monkwood for ten years and I love every minute that I spend in school.
Outside of school, I have 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and I love spending time with them. We like to spend our days in the sunshine having family BBQs. I also have lots of pets and love having furry snuggles! I can’t wait to meet you and start working with you.

Our New Learning
This year we have lots of amazing topics to get us excited about our learning! In September, we will be starting off with mighty metals, learning all about the world of metal, the steel city and becoming engineers to make our very own metal objects! This will be followed by the topics: Scrumdiddlyumptious, Romans, Terrible Tremors, Going Green and finally finishing with Vikings.
We will cover lots of different genres in our English work and will use lots of fantastic books to help us along the way. In Maths, we will be covering lots of different things including place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, money, statistics, measurement, fractions, time and shape. We will also have regular lessons on History, Geography, Science, Art, Design Technology, PE, Spanish, RE, PSHE, Computing and Music.
The school day starts at 8:45 am and the school day ends at 3:20 pm. Our PE days are Wednesday (indoors) and Thursday (outdoors), however, we recommend that your child has their PE kit in school all week, just in case we manage to sneak an extra session in! Please make sure you have planners, reading books, spellings and water bottles in school every day.
Homework will consist of spellings, reading and timetable practice using TT-Rockstars. Our school target is to aim for all children to read at least three times a week and to practice their spellings and times tables as often as possible. Please help your child to do this as all of these things are highly important and play a large role in helping your child to learn and progress. Spellings will be checked and tested regularly. Please record any of this in the school planner and planners will be checked on a Monday for the previous week. We also ask children to create projects for their homework on a half termly basis, giving you the opportunity to be creative and to promote a love of learning.
