Uniform
At Monkwood Primary School we believe that our children should be able to wear uniform that is affordable. Whilst branded jumpers and polo shirts are available, these are not compulsory and parents/carers are free to purchase uniform from any suitable retailer.
We have a school uniform which all children should wear. It consists of:
- Plain navy blue sweatshirt, with or without the school logo (not a hoodie – these are for PE only unless it is Y6 leavers, school council etc…)
- Plain white polo shirt, which must be worn tucked into waistband
- Plain black or grey school trousers (not jogging bottoms, jeans or leggings – these are NOT allowed)
- Plain black or grey school skirt or pinafore dress
- Plain black or grey tailored shorts (not sports shorts or cycling shorts – these are NOT allowed)
- Blue and white checked summer dresses Flat, plain black shoes or trainers
- No high heels, trainers or any other ‘fashion’ footwear. Backless shoes or flip-flop styles may not be worn for health and safety reasons.
PE Kit
For reasons of basic health and hygiene it is important that all children have a change of clothes and footwear for PE and games.
This should be:
- Plain black shorts (indoor PE or warm days)
- Plain white t shirt (round neck)
- Plain black tracksuit bottoms & top – these are for outdoor PE only Trainers (these must be a different pair from day to day wear)
- Plain black sports hoodies (optional) for outdoor PE only.
Please make sure your child has both an indoor kit and an outdoor kit at all times in school. We would suggest children bring their PE kits on a Monday and take them home on Friday.
Jewellery, Hair & Make-up
Jewellery should not be worn in school, except a wristwatch (no smart watches which allow messages). The exception to this is for pupils with pierced ears, where stud-type earrings may be worn. Pupils may be able to take part in PE wearing small ear studs, which need to be taped before school / by the child (at the discretion of the Sports Coach or Teacher). No facial or body piercings are permitted to be worn in school. Hair that is long enough to be tied back must be at all times especially in PE sessions.
Jewellery and clothing worn as part of religious beliefs also need to meet the standards and if not, will be discussed with families.
Make-up must not be worn and pupils will be asked to remove it. We would also ask that children do not have hair dye or hair colour.

At a time when a lot of families are tightening their belts, we’re aware that many could benefit from a little extra support when it comes to buying school uniforms and other essentials – such as coats and PE kits – that children need for school. That’s why we’ve created a Trust-wide Uniform Bank of good quality, new and used items – providing a sustainable way to recycle and repurpose school uniforms.
