In History, Class 12 have been learning about the role of the Oba, the leader of the Kingdom of Benin. The children explored how the Obas were portrayed in Benin art, looking closely at sculptures, plaques, and carvings to understand what these artworks reveal about their power, authority, and importance within society.
Through group discussions and careful analysis, the class discovered how art was used not just for decoration, but as a way to communicate respect, tradition, and leadership. They then compared the Obas’ leadership and legacy with that of the pharaohs in Ancient Egypt, identifying similarities and differences in how both rulers were seen as powerful, almost divine figures.
The children shared some fantastic ideas, showing curiosity and maturity in their discussions. Well done, Y5!
