Today, Y5 investigated the significance of the Black Lives Matter movement and its impact on challenging racism and inequality in modern society. Using a range of historical sources, including photographs, newspaper headlines, quotes, and posters, the children worked collaboratively to explore different aspects of the movement. Each group became experts in a specific area, such as sport, music, film and television, or protests, before creating informative posters and presenting their findings to the class.
We were incredibly impressed by the thoughtful discussions, teamwork, and excellent use of evidence throughout the lesson. The children demonstrated a mature understanding of why the movement has been significant and how individuals and communities can help bring about positive change. Well done, Year 5!
