Recently, Class 13 took part in a fantastic session with POPS Outdoor Adventure, exploring what family life was like during the Industrial Revolution. The children worked in teams to form ‘families’ and took on different roles, including working in the pits to collect coal. Using sticks of wood to represent coal, they had to meet specific size criteria before it was checked and ‘paid’ accordingly.
As the activity developed, real-life challenges were introduced, such as paying rent, buying food, and purchasing tools, helping the children understand how difficult life could be at the time. It was a brilliant, hands-on experience that really brought history to life!
