Mrs Ellis recommends – The Tunnel by Anthony Browne.
In this story, a brother and sister argue and hate spending time together. Their mother makes them go out and they have a frightening adventure involving a tunnel and a deep, dark forest…
The story ends happily, thank goodness but there is a moment where you think there is no hope for poor Jack, who gets turned into stone before Rose finds him.
If you love reading fairy tales, you will see glimpses of them all the way through this book.
Every time I read this book, I see something else interesting in the illustrations, especially in the trees which tell a story of their own with their amazing detail.
You never find out what really happened and that’s what makes the story more exciting as you could speculate for hours. Anything can happen in a story!
